I will never forget I was 8 and my mother just couldn't handle my natural hair and since relaxers were all the hype back then and it worked for my sister's hair my mom decided to try it on mine.
My hair was smothered in Just For Me while I listened to the free cassette that came in every box, I sang along completely ignoring the tingling sensation that I was feeling due to my ignorance of the product.
My mom came and asked if it was burning and it was then I realized it was ,I was taken to the sink where my hair was rinsed but only to the horror of both my mother an I as my hair flowed down the sink as evenly as the water.
After that I was taken to get a complete hair cut. Being that age and going to school with a bald head and studs made me no cuter. I was teased and called so many names some days I didn't want to go to school but with encouragement from my mom and older sister I learned some clever come backs and also earned my confidence.
It was a lesson for both my mom and I that even though terrible, helped to create someone better.
